Decription

Incredible property in the Country Club area of San Rafael. Situated on nearly a level acre of private, maturely landscaped land sits 135 Montecito Road. Generously proportioned, this one-level house boats the best of indoor/ outdoor living. The open living room/ dining room is spacious boasting vaulted ceilings, gorgeous custom wood built-ins, a large wood burning fireplace and a wall of windows that invite you to the outdoors. Adjacent, is the equally generous chef’s kitchen which offers two more casual eating areas plus a family room/ den area. Top of the line appliances throughout, a custom wood burning pizza oven and a guest/ powder bath create a perfect layout for everyday living and entertaining.

The bedroom wing of the home is smartly laid out. The huge master suite looks out to the gardens and features a spa-like master bath including a jacuzzi tub, a steam shower and a double vanity. And of course there is a massive walk-in closet. Down the hall, both private, but close by are three adjacent additional bedrooms and their bathroom.

Towards the other end of the home are two additional bedrooms, both en-suite which could be utilized any number of ways. A guest suite, an au-pair or in-law suite, or additional bedrooms as needed. Either of these bedrooms could also be served as a home office, a family room or an outdoor adjacent pool/ changing room.

There is a two car garage, with an electric charging outlet and tons of storage. Entrance from the garage into the main house is through a large mud room which also serves as the laundry room and a pantry to the kitchen, boasting a huge wall of custom cabinets.

Beyond the main home is a detached and private home office which overlooks the side garden and boasts a skylight letting in ample natural light.

The entire home flows easily to the outdoors. The site has been professionally landscaped and thus is surrounded by mature, lush plantings which offer terrific privacy. The centerpiece of the yard is a kidney shaped pool with diving board; perfect for warm summer days. There is a hot tub of course, and your own tennis court.  A trampoline is tucked away in the gardens as well. All day sun and a beautiful view looking out to the mountains nearby complete the picture. This is true resort-like living in Marin County.

Neighborhood

San Rafael is large, diverse, eclectic, and historic. That history stretches from California's beginnings, with the 1817 founding of Mission San Rafael on the old El Camino Real, to the construction of the eye-popping Marin Civic Center in the 1960s. Designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the Civic Center was completed in 1962 and is so futuristic that it pops up in science-fiction films.

San Rafael still looks to the future thanks to a vibrant downtown redevelopment effort. The focal point of downtown is the Smith Rafael Film Center, which features a state–of-the-art multiplex cinema that screens independent and foreign films.  Cuisine is eclectic: within a few blocks of 4th Street diners can find sushi, Indian, Thai, Italian, Mexican, and Puerto Rican food. Thursday afternoons in the spring and summer find 4th Street hosting a farmers market, which features live music.
